Naked 3 - Tutorial

Hi everyone :)

Last week I introduced you guys to the Naked 3 palette so I thought it would be quite a nice idea to link you guys to a tutorial using the product.

I have been using the Naked 3 non stop since I got it about 3 weeks ago and I am starting to choose favourites :)
I absolutely love their shimmers as some sort of highlight to wear on top of some of my mat Mac eye shadows. But normally I just wear the mats and combine a couple of them together.
Which is exactly what Poppy does in her tutorial.
She is fairly new to the whole YouTube beauty guru thing but does a splendid job of it.

I think we all know how to use eye liner as well as the problem of never getting both of the lines to look the same. Which is the reason I think that it doesn't matter that the video cuts off there :)

I hope you enjoy the tutorial and can take something away from it. And  if you have a Naked 3, also enjoy using that. I know I do :)
Also I'll link you Poppy's YouTube channel so you can go subscribe.

Food Friday - Easter Brunch/ Cake Pops

Hi everyone :)

So I have been getting my baking on again lately. Quite a lot to be honest and I thought there were some good enough things produced so I should really not keep them from you.

I wont put up all the recipes today and spread them out over the weekend Maybe you can find some things you would like to try :) I always feel inspired after reading blogs about food :D
I tried making Cake Pops and by tried I mean I got so annoyed at one point I just wanted to through them all out haha.
Maybe not my brightest hour of baking but hey....

Take your time with these cake pops and do plan with 2 days because the cake needs to cool down over night. If you don't have that kind of time just put it in the freezer for maybe around 15 minutes, that has always worked for me so far.

Ingredients:

145 g soft butter
80 g sugar
1 sachet of vanilla sugar
a bit of finely ground lemon zest
2 eggs (medium sized)
150 g flour
1 tbsp baking powder
2 tbsp yogurt
60 g cream cheese
30 g icing sugar

as well as
400 g white chocolate coating

Other things you need:

cake pop sticks
20 cm loaf pan
rotary cutter (whichever you like best really)

Preheat the oven to 180°C
Mix 125 g of the butter, the sugar, vanilla sugar and lemon zest into a bowl and beat till it gets foamy. Now I know that is what it says in the recipe but to be honest: My mixture has never looked anything close to foamy so don't worry if it doesn't as long as it looks something like this you are fine!

Add the eggs one after another and finally finish off with adding the flour, baking powder and a dash of salt.

Add the two tablespoons of yogurt but don't use the electric mixer instead take like a spoon or something.

Grease the loaf pan and pour the mixture in and off it goes into the oven for around 50 minutes.
Let the cake rest over night or at least 2-3 hours. If you don't have that kind of time about 15 minutes in the freezer will do as well.

After that take your cake and roughly crumble it into smaller pieces so you can grind it to fine crumbs in the food processor.

This was the hilarious part: We didn't have a food processor so we just thought why not do it with a blender? Bad idea I can tell you, it took forever :D

Cake crumbs, cream cheese, icing sugar and the rest of the butter are to be knead together so you have an even mixture.

With your finished mixture you want to try to roll it our and cut out pieces with any form of rotary cutter you like. We made hearts.

That is where it kind of turned into a mess, because the hearts we had were really small so we got like a thousand out of the mixture we had.
After you have cut them out, heat up your chocolate and then dunk the cake pops sticks in there and impale a heart.
You can either let that cool down on it's own for a bit or use the freezer option again. I recommend the freezer.

You are almost done now: Just dunk the hearts or whichever form you chose in the chocolate and have them cool down standing up. You can use a egg carton for that like we did or anything else you can stick them into really.

Now you are good to eat them :) They were a s*** load of work because of the small hearts but absolutely delicious nevertheless.

Also do have some fin while baking. We had different kinds of fruit lying around and decided why not have chocolate fondue while we are baking.
That's how sexy I looked trying to eat a chocolate strawberry:

Don't judge, you know you would have done it too :D

Have fun trying this recipe and also making a mess of your kitchen :)

My new found favourites and old loved ones II

Hi everyone :)

Here is part two of this little mini series. I might add a part three but that will be further down the line, definitely.
Recently I went on a bit of a shopping spree for new make-up related things. I bought brushes and all these kinds of things.
I bought new things in the first place because my skin has really changed over the past let's say one and a half years and many of the products I used back than my skin now reacts to.
So new things needed to be looked for and I had so much fun trying out new things.
And with this post I just want to show you these new products I bought but obviously only the good ones. Well the ones I like best anyway :)

Lets start with foundation and concealer

foundation: Clinique.even better with SPF 15 (shade: 24)
concealer: Smashbox. camera ready BB cream eyes SPF 15 ( shade: fair)

Both of these products aren't cheap, but as said in my last post relating to this (read it here), I am investing in higher quality products that don't dry out my skin too much.
I am so so happy with both of these and they are definitely worth every penny I spent on them.
When I went out looking for a new foundation, I knew I wanted one that was light to medium covered and wasn't to heavy on the skin. The woman in the store's first recommendation was a Clinique foundation, because they are always very good when it comes to allergies and stuff. She also got this particular foundation because I explained to her that I am allergic to sun, as in I get red dots that itch all over my skin if I go out too much in summe. Due to that you would think I wear loads of sunscreen but that actually makes it worse. So a foundation with a SPF is perfect for me, as it means I don't have to put layers of creams and stuff on my face whenever the sun is out.
As a conclusion, if you have easily irritated skin that dries out fast do go for the Clinique foundation. And their coverage is really enough guys. You don't really need more, it gives you an even finish and you can always cover really bad spots with  a bit of extra concealer.
Which brings us directly to the next product: the concealer from Smashbox.
I again am more than happy with this product. I asked for a concealer that wouldn't dry out fast or sit heavily in the view wrinkles everyone has around their eyes. I also wanted one that didn't light up to much in pictures as some concealers do look really weird when photographed. They make you look like you drew a white stripe under your eyes or something.
The woman very quickly came up with the Smashbox one and made my exceptionally happy with it.
Yes it is a bit pricey and my very thin student wallet cried a bit afterwards but if I were to buy it again (which I will) my wallet would cry happy tiers, as the price-performance ratio is nothing to complain about. I got exactly what I asked for.

Okay now on to the things that are a bit more fun!

I finally got my hand on the 'Naked Palette 3' and am a very happy bunny :D Thanks to a website I recommended a while back: feelunique.com (post)

Any NAKED palette you order comes with 4 packets of primer, which I always find very thoughtful.

1.strange  2.dust  3.burnout
4.limit  5.buzz  6.trick
7.nooner  8.liar  9.factory
10.mugshot  11.darkside  12.blackheart

If you are not usually one to wear primer please do with these eye shadows. Not because they don't stay in place as well as others but because these colours are far to pretty to have them moving around. I love all the colours so much, I couldn't even say which one is my favourite. What I particularly like about the Naked 3 palette however is the fact that there is no blacks in there. Even blackheart is brown based which is perfect for me, as I don't like how hard black sometimes makes your eye make-up look.

Last thing I tried is this:

first lip liner, than lip gloss, than lipstick

It is the Nude Lips set from the Karadashian make-up line. It wasn't something I have always wanted but I thought I would give it a try. Now I have to say I use the lipgloss, which is the one in the middle, quite a lot, the rest: not so much.
The problem I have with this is that it makes kind of a browny nude lip less than a beigy nude. I guess that is fine if you are a bit tan but if you are as pale as I am it looks a bit weird.
Also the lip liner is very strong and even if you put the lipstick over it you can still kind off see it through. So really go easy on that if you are thinking of giving this product a try.
On the upside of it all: the lip gloss tastes and smells amazing :D

Creative Sunday - Kia

Hi everyone :)

I have said it before and I will say it again: I am not a fan of commercials which has led to me not watching Tv. There somehow is no way around watching commercials though is there?
I will admit though that I have recently been kind of happy that you can't avoid them fully.
I mean how cool is the new Kia advert? I find it absolutely brilliant. It is not your usual car commercial but has actually got a script and a bit of a story that in the end relates back to the car.
Not just two people in a car driving along some desert road or whatever road they find.

I have two car commercials I really like, this Kia one and the one Casey Neistat did for Mercedes.
So here are both of them :) :

They are just different and that is what I like about them!
So they win this weeks award for creativity :) If there was one :D

19 April 2014

There is this thing....

Hi everyone :)

It is Easter tomorrow and there are a view things about it that I don't know what to think of. So I just want to get them off my chest and maybe here some opinions on it :)
Are we up for that?

So Easter has become this new big thing in spring that everyone seems to go crazy about and I don't get it. Like most people don't even know why we even have Easter and just take it as another excuse to get presents out of their family members.
Not cool people!
Easter shouldn't be turned into a second Christmas! I am absolutely against that. There was a segment on the radio the other day about Easter and it said that parents spend around 45 € on Easter presents. 45€ that is a lot in my opinion.
We used to get something small for Easter and some eggs that made a great egg hunt. Egg hunts are all Easter needs really, they are fun enough for kids no need for a big present.
I don't think it is okay to turn Easter into a second Christmas.

And I hate that people seem to slowly but surely forget why we had these holidays in the first place. Like okay don't go to church if you don't want to but please be aware of the meaning of this holiday you are celebrating.
Christmas was the birth of Jesus and Easter is celebrated because god gave his son so our sins would be forgiven and he than arose from the dead.
Teach your kids that, tell them he reason they are getting presents and let them decide for themselves if they want to know more about that please.

I mean these festivities mean so much more than just getting gifts and people just ignore that. I sometimes think it is a bit hypocritical of people who don't believe in god to celebrate them at all. Why would you? The reason it's celebrated doesn't mean anything to you so why do it at all?
We don't all have Ramadan do we?
Same thing goes for this new trend that is fasting. Again the majority of people does it because it is hip to not eat certain things during this time before Easter but no one bothers to find out why we all seem to do it around the same time.
Again it's the same with not eating meat on Good Friday, we just don't do it but tend to forget why we don't do it.
I find that a bit sad especially since I am Christian myself and do actually know where all these things originated from.

Maybe it would be nice to learn the history of things once in a while and not just adopt them into your life.
And if this blog posts results in only one person looking up the meaning of some of these things I will be more than happy to have written it.

I also am going to bed now because I am going to church tomorrow morning :)

Food Friday- Sweet Potato and Goat Cheese

Hi everyone :)

Wow we haven't done one of these in a while have we? I don't even get why, I love cooking and baking so much but I tend to get so carried away with it that I forget taking pictures.
Last Monday, when I was cooking for my boyfriend I didn't forget though. So here is a slightly changed recipe from a Jerusalem cook book that my mum bought my grandma but somehow ended up on my bookshelf.

Ingredients:

4 small sweet potatoes (1kg)
5 tbsp olive oil
40 ml balsamic vinegar
20 g sugar
8 spring onions
1 red chill
6 fresh figs
2 about 1,5 cm thick slices of goat cheese
2 tbsp honey
a bit of Parmesan
sea salt, pepper

Preheat oven to 240°C.

Wash the sweet potatoes, cut in half lengthwise and slice up each half into 3 pieces.
Mix 3 tablespoons of olive oil with 2 teaspoons of salt and a bit of pepper in a bowl. Add your sweet potato in and spread the spiced oil evenly.

Put the slices with the skin on the downside onto a griddle (I would advise you to use baking paper, so the sweet potato doesn't stick to it).

Roast all that in the oven for 25 about 25 minutes. The sweet potato should be soft but not fall apart.

Heat the balsamic vinegar in a small pot and add the sugar. Let the mixture boil up and cook for about 2-4 minutes on a lower heat. It should get slightly thicker in it's consistency that's when you know you can take it off the stove.

sorry for the dirty stove. I do live with 3 guys :D

It will still get thicker while it cools down so don't worry if you are not sure if you took it off to soon. If it doesn't turn out to be a sirupy texture then just add a bit of water when it's to thick or heat it up again (there really is no way this can go wrong).

Chop up your spring onions into ca. 4 cm long slices.

Next chop up the chili, don't chop it into too small pieces as you won't be able to avoid it in your food then. Cause with this dish you will be able to taste the chili, so if you have people that don't like it to spicy they can take them out.

Put the rest of your olive oil, the spring onions and the chili in a pan and roast them gently for about 4 to 5 minutes.

After that only your goat cheese is left and you have to bear with me on this one as I can promise it will be delicious although it will probably not look like it :D
Heat up a bit of olive oil and the tablespoons of honey in a pan and roast your goat cheese in it.

After that you just have to slice your figs in quarters and you are all set. Put the sweet potato on your plate and arrange them with the fig in any artsy way you can come up with. Or just stack everything on your plate that works too, especially if you are hungry :D
Add the spring onions and chili with the oil from the pan and sprinkle it with the balsamic vinegar sirup.
Grade some parmesan over the top if you feel like it :)
Now find a free space for the goat cheese and you can get stuck in!

I didn't have the figs in there on Monday because they didn't have any at the store but it is good with or without them :)

Enjoy your meal.

Thank You

Hi everyone :)

Today is about you guys, about eery single one of you that has ever clicked on this blog and read one of my posts.
I am grateful for every one of you and I want to say Thank You.

Thank You for reading.
Thank You for coming back every day.
Thank You for putting up with me and my crazy ideas.
Thank you for staying with me if you are here more regularly.
Thank you for just deciding to tune in today.
Thank You for every comment that was left. I appreciate them all so much.

Just a general Thank You really.
I have had this blog for almost a year now and I have been updating it with new post almost every day. Yes there were times when i couldn't do it because I was sick or simply to busy or just couldn't find anything to write about.
I also had lazy days where I just forgot to be honest.
But having this blog has really helped me. It is the place I go to if I need to get something out there but it is also the space that I go to with creative new ideas.
And it is my little project that I also worry about and have big plans for.
I like researching things and taking my time with a blog post and then the moment I press upload and all of you can read it.
I was a little shocked when I had 10.000 reads on this blog but even more so when I saw that people all over the world read it.
It is really mind blowing when you see that there are actually people you don't know reading your blog. Not just friends and family who are kind of obligated to do so, in a way :D

This past year has gone by so fast and I can't believe that this blog will turn one soon. It's a strange idea but I already am excited for it to turn to and then three and four and five.
Because that is what I plan to do with it.
I really want to keep doing this and as long as at least one person a day reads it I will keep updating it.,

So Thank You for 1 Year!!!!

My new found favourites and old loved ones I

Hi everyone :)

How are we? I feel like I have been exceptionally chipper these past view days. I am going to blame it on my life being organized for once and running according to a certain schedule. I like things being in order, not that I am a neat freak or anything. My mind is mostly a mess that is why I like the things I can control to be in place.
But that is for a different post.
I feel good about sticking to the themes I had set for the blog originally, as well. So today is about something beauty related.

Over the past year my skin has turned into a bit of a handful and I was in desperate need of a solution. One minute my skin would be super oily and the next I could almost scratch my skin right off my face because it was that dry. And I had a lot more spots as well, which I have never had that many of before.
This all lead to me thinking that it was time for me to really invest in some proper skin care.
As I said, my skin is a being a little diva and I have tried countless off different things until I bought my first Clinique product.
I can tell you I am in love and so is my skin. It still gets really dry from time to time but I have it under control with the products that I use in no time.

I have mixed two products here as I use the facial soap for oily skin and the clarifying lotion for combination skin. It works quite well though :)

These products are genius, I promise and they are worth every penny. I have read that people complain about the smell of the products though, as they don't smell at all actually. Or well the facial soap quite frankly smells like soap without any kind of perfume, which makes them so good for people whose skin gets easily irritated. If you would rather have something that smells nice then well, maybe don't choose Clinique.
Another thing I absolutely love about these new Clinique products, is the fact that the moisturizer isn't a cream but much rather a gel. Which basically means that it isn't so heavy on the skin and is readily absorbed by it. I also prefer their moisturizing gel over a primer under foundation just because it feels so light.

I have also never quite bothered with make-up removal before. I do now, as I have done some research on it and some of the pictures from people who never remove their make-up are pretty vile. Your skin needs time to recover and breathe, so alongside with my skin care routine stuff I also bought a cleanser. It is made for removing make-up without drying out the skin.
(It's also in the picture above on the far right)

Another important thing: Eye make-up remover. I always find it better to first remove your eye make-up and then do the rest of the face. Firstly because most of the eye make-up removers are quite oily and secondly because I always find eye make-up to be a bit more persistent than the genreal rest :D
Especially if you use waterproof mascara, as I have without even knowing I did. Yeah I will read what it says on the mascara next time and not just buy one because the brush looks cool.

One of my favourites is a new one by Clinique (who would have guessed) and the other one is a old friend from Douglas. I think it is actually from their won brand as far as I my understanding goes.
Both of these are 2 phase and need to be shaken before they are used.
I am quite happy with both of these although I will admit to not buying the Clinique one again after it is empty, simple because the Douglas one is just as good and a whole lot cheaper. But if you can afford to spend a bit more money on a eye make-up remover please do buy the Clinique one, you won't be disappointed!

To conclude this first section of my favourites and recommending products to you I wills ay that sometimes investing a bit more money does pay off. I am so happy with all of these products even though they are a bit more expensive than what I am used to buying.
Next week we will head over to actual make-up things. But if I had put them in today's post as well it would have gotten even longer than it is now :)
As I generally really do have an opinion about these kinds of things that I would like to share with you guys. In the hope that it might help you on your search for the perfect product for your skin.

Musical Monday

Hi everyone :)

It's music day again, are we ready to do?

I have a little treasure of mine hidden in today's post, a song I absolutely love and think is highly underrated!
I will let you decide which one that is :)

This one is a bit older and was recommended by a dear friend:

Probably the best version of this song... or at least the one I like best. He has an amazing voice and I am positiv that this song should only be sung like this or live preferably but well.. we will take what we can get :)

Here comes the last song for today :)

Enjoy and have a good week :)

Poetry Slam

Hi everyone :)

There is this thing called poetry slams that I absolutely love. I try to go whenever I can since there are always so many amazingly talented people taking part. And I find it quite interesting to see what people can come up with if given a certain topic and a weeks time or something.
And since I do enjoy writing a little poem here and there as well it is always inspiring to go to these things.

Lately there haven’t been that many round so I turned to YouTube instead, I mean you can pretty much find everything on there, so why not give poetry slams a try?
And I found more that I wanted, some were utter s***, excuse my language, but there were also quite  view who blew me away.
One in particular, it is from a group of girls and recorded on a contest I think and it is more than brilliant.
It has everything in it that I love about poetry slams, a great performance, a bit of acting and a astonishingly well written script.
I might even be a bit in love with them and what they came up with.
It is a mixture between how society sees women and how they see themselves. I guess you could very well call it feminist but in a complimentary way.

You just have to watch it really and probably go to the next poetry slam you can go to. They are a lot of fun I promise!

It’s great right? They are so right about everything as well. It’s not JUST a great piece of poetry!

Hamburg through my Eyes

Hi everyone :)

As you all know I have been in Hamburg recently and I have finally managed to edit all the pictures I took. Or just sorted out the ones that I didn't quite like, or didn't turn out the way I expected them to. So here they are :)

This is gonna be a post with a lot of pictures and a lot less words as I have a bit of a headache and I actually just want you to enjoy a bit of Hamburg. It is a fascinating city.

I absolutely loved this house, we saw it on our first evening in town and took a whole bunch of pictures. More than we needed to but well, it was my dad and I so this could probably be called normal for us :D

Yes I took a picture of a display window with bow-ties in it! They were pretty cool okay?

More Elefants... yeah!

And a pretty sunset :)

I think I waited for about 5 minutes till I actually got a bird in there. I was very proud of myself :)

I did really enjoy my stay in Hamburg and it is quite an astonishing city. And there is water, what is not to love?
I have lived in Wellington which is on the coast for a year and I really miss living close to the ocean so being in Hamburg was great.
It is totally worth a visit.

Food Friday - Marley's

Hi everyone :)

While my dad and I were wandering around Hamburg hungrily, we came across a hotel that seemed to have a lovely restaurant attached.
We read the menu they had outside and decided to give it a go, as just by reading it we had already seen quite a view things we felt like eating.
Marley’s is the quite elegant restaurant on the ground floor go The Madison in Hamburg, with great food and friendly, courteous waiters.

The chairs look a lot less comfortable then they actually are and the decorations on the table are simple but quite tasteful.

I can’t for the life of me remember what my dad ordere but it was an Asian dish that they had on their daily menu so you are probably not very likely to have that. I had a ceased salad with salmon as I wasn’t feeling to adventurous.

Before our food arrived we got a bit of bread and butter. I don’t know exactly what it was but they gave us this really thin almost crisps like bread that had caraway in it and it was soooooo good. I could have happily eaten a bathtub of that stuff, even though I do have no clue what exactly it was.

We both enjoyed our food a lot but the salmon I had was just exceptional. It just fell apart and was cooked to perfection.

meet my very smug looking Dad :)

I have to say my dad and I quite enjoyed our late night dinner at Marley’s, they don’t have a lot of food on their menu but the things they do have are cooked with a lot of love.
So if you ever are in Hamburg, or even staying at The Madison do please check out this place. I can guarantee you will enjoy the food!

So that's how it is?

Hi everyone :)

there are a view videos of that sort to be found on YouTube but I am just going to show you three as these are the ones that I find quite interesting to watch.

One is from a Australien YouTuber and the other one is from a famous German professional football player and the last is from a British high diver.
You don't have to watch all three one is really enough for me to get my point across but if you do ahve the times, please watch all three :)

Troye Sivan:

Thomas Hitzlsberger:

Tom Daley:

Firstly: Yes I do know that there are coming out videos from women aswell but I tend to find that people seem to care less about women being gay then they do about men.

But that is not what this is about.
I want to tell these people how proud they can be of themselves and how brave they were for doing this even if in my opinion they shouldn't have to do this in the first place.

It is hard enough to admit being gay to yourself and then tell your parents just because it still is something frowned upon in our society.
But how is it okay to make someone feel bad about themselves for loving who they love?
That shouldn't be a thing. It's the same as someone telling you it is not okay to have green hair. It is none of that other persons business in the first place and secondly who are they to judge?

Why do people still find it important to know what a person qualifies as? Why is someones sexuality such a big deal to us?
Why do we feel the need to explain ourselves through a YouTube video? Why can it not just be okay who we love and that's that.

I even find the need for these labels: gay, bisexual, straight, transexual completely unnecessary. Who made these and at the same time decided that heterosexual or straight was the norm?
Whoever that person was: You are an IDIOT. Yes in capital letters.
You made countless amounts of people feel uneasy about themselves because they don't fit a so called norm.
Who says being gay is abnormal, why do we even care if it is or if it isn't?
For me being gay is as normal as being straight is, it just doesn't make a difference. And it certainly doesn't change a person.
So even though these 3 men are incredibly brave do have come out online and in such a big way, I don't think they should have to.

However since our society sadly still works this way, they have set a great example for young people. Don't be afraid to stand up for yourself. Don't be afraid to be 'different' (even though I hate saying that, because really you aren't).
You can make it work and if people don't want to be friends with you anymore because of who you love screw them, they were idiots anyway!
Now you might say: Wow that is easy for you to say, you have no idea!
Well actually I do, my mum has a girlfriend and I grew up with thinking that was normal, I still believe it is, but people kept telling me it wasn't 'normal'. Once I got older and was able to understand what that meant for my mum or what being gay even was finally able to grasp what people had been on about.
That never stopped me from believing that it doesn't matter who you love, or shouldn't matter at least.

How to store Make-Up

Hi everyone!

Ever looked at your make-up bag and thought this is s*** I can't find anything? I am sure you have and so have I countless times, so many times that I got annoyed enough to fix the whole situation.

So I went into Ikea and got the problem fixed. And now my make-up collection went from being an absolute mess in a bag to a nice and clean drawer that is perfectly sorted and well organized.

I bought different bits and bobs since I don't have a Ikea wardrobe so their stuff doesn't fit perfectly in my drawers.
It was fairly cheap as most things are in Ikea :)

I have put lips stuff, eye shadow, foundation/blush/bronzer and concealer/eye roll ons in separate little compartments.
I keep my palettes at the side and in the little space at the back I have my eye make-up remover.

My nail polish and hair ties/clasps are kept in little separate boxes.

I love my new organized drawer and it has become so much easier to actually choose stuff as well and I don't forget about things I have, it'd great.
If you want to know what boxes and organizing stuff I used here are the links:
